New Migraine Treatment
Looking for a new migraine treatment?
If you are among the 18% of women, or 6% of men that suffer from debilitating migraine attacks, the chances are you will be interested in hearing about any potential new migraine treatment.
Perhaps you are looking for a new migraine treatment that is more natural than your current treatment, with fewer side effects? Or perhaps you still haven’t found an effective way to relieve your migraines?
Here are four of the most recent developments in the search for a new migraine treatment:
New migraine treatment 1 – TMS Hand held device
Early indications show that a hand held device that delivers magnetic pulses to the back of the head could disrupt events in the brain that lead to a migraine with aura. This system, which is simple to use and free from side effects, is still being tested.
Known as TMS, or trans-cranial magnetic stimulation, this new migraine treatment has been trialled at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, and the initial findings show that 40% of patients were pain free after an hour.
New migraine treatment 2 – Sumavel DosePro
Sumatriptan injections and tablets have been successfully used to treat acute migraines and cluster headaches for some time, but the Sumavel DosePro is a new migraine treatment with a needle free delivery system.
Sumavel DosePro allows sumatriptan to be delivered under the skin, without an injection, enabling quick absorption and fast relief from migraine pain. Clinical trials showed 70% of users experienced pain relief within an hour. This new migraine treatment is FDA approved and is available from pharmacists.
New migraine treatment 3 – Botox injections
There has been a link between botulinum toxin injections (botox), used for cosmetic purposes, and acute migraine relief. It is thought that botox injections may affect the way pain signals travel to the brain, block pain receptors, or reduce inflammation, resulting in less frequent migraines.
The link between botox and migraine relief has only been identified using a small number of migraine sufferers who had already had, or who were planning on having botox injections. Further clinical trails are required to determine the true benefits of botox injections.
New migraine treatment 4 – Sootheaway
For those wanting a drug free way to relieve migraine pain, the natural and convenient Sootheaway could be the new migraine
treatment you’ve been looking for.
The Sootheaway is a thermo electrically heated and cooled device that circulates water through a therapeutic pad at a constant temperature. This pad has been specially designed to be applied to the areas affected by migraine pain, and to relieve suffering.
